Understanding the UCP Grading System
Like most HEC‑affiliated universities, UCP awards both A+ and A the same grade point (4.00). This means scoring 90% or 85% both give a perfect GPA for that course. However, the transcript will still reflect the letter grade. A- is 3.67, B+ is 3.33, B is 3.00, and so on. Failing (F) gives 0 grade points and the course must be retaken. According to UCP policy, when a course is retaken, the new grade replaces the F in CGPA calculation.
Special grades: “W” (Withdrawal) does not affect CGPA; “I” (Incomplete) is temporarily not counted; “AU” (Audit) also has no grade points. Our calculator only uses final letter grades.
Example Calculation
Suppose you take three courses in a semester at UCP:
- Mathematics (3 credits): Grade A (4.00) → Quality Points = 3 × 4.00 = 12
- Physics (4 credits): Grade B+ (3.33) → Quality Points = 4 × 3.33 = 13.32
- English (2 credits): Grade A- (3.67) → Quality Points = 2 × 3.67 = 7.34
Total credits = 3+4+2 = 9. Total quality points = 12 + 13.32 + 7.34 = 32.66. SGPA = 32.66 ÷ 9 = 3.63. If you previously had a CGPA of 3.20 over 60 credits, your new overall CGPA = (3.20×60 + 32.66) ÷ (60+9) = (192 + 32.66) ÷ 69 = 224.66 ÷ 69 = 3.26.
